PETER ROCKWELL, AIA - Principal & Project Architect
Education: Bachelor of Architecture, Cornell
Licensure: California, 1981
Membership: American Institute of Architects
Born and reared in San Francisco, the son of an architect, Peter is steeped in the San Francisco Bay architectural tradition, tempered with International Style principles garnered at Cornell. Since graduating, he has pursued a varied practice of architecture for over 40 years. Prior to joining Lemanski & Rockwell Architects, his work included medical facilities, schools, residences, construction defect investigation and remediation, litigation support, commercial and corporate interiors, construction inspection, and contract administration. This wide variety of experience gives Mr. Rockwell a thorough understanding of building technology and construction practices and their influence on building form.
Since joining Jean in Lemanski & Rockwell, he has applied this understanding to all project phases, striving to create environments that honestly express building functions, structure, and materials. He takes a problem-solving approach to design, looking to the functional requirements in concert with the aesthetic to suggest the solution. He’s involved in all project phases, bringing a practical, down-to-earth approach to architectural practice and enjoys both big-picture conceptual design and being “on the boards”, producing working drawings and writing specifications.
As the firm’s chief specifications writer, Peter keeps up with Building Code changes, environmental and industry developments, as well as our clients’ own standards to ensure that the products and materials in our projects meet increasingly stringent Code and CHPS requirements and are compatible with District standards.
Outside of his professional life, Peter enjoys backpacking, travelling with his family, cooking, motorcycling, and volunteering with a wilderness Search and Rescue team.
